Maintenance of Extensions

After you have your hair extensions in place, you will need to schedule regular maintenance visits to check your extensions. How often you need to go back will depend on the type of hair and the method of attachment that was used. As your hair grows out, some of the hair extensions will need to be removed and replaced or touched up.

On a day-to-day basis you should treat your human hair extensions as you would long hair. Brush, shampoo, condition and moisturize on a regular basis. Some hair stylists will recommend specific high-quality hair care products to use with your extensions. You can also use hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons on most types of human hair extensions. Color treatments can be done on the hair extensions, but you should consult with your hair stylist before considering this. Monthly color touch-ups to your roots will not be a problem, as the hair extensions will not be touched.

In short, here are ten tips to follow after you have decided you want to get hair extensions and have selected a beauty salon.

1.After selecting a salon, schedule an initial consultation to discuss what you would like to have done and any concerns that you have.

2. Ask about what hair extension experience your hair stylist has and where they received their training.

3. Make sure the hair stylist listens and understands your needs and concerns. Does he/she communicate well with you?

4. The hair stylist should ask you about your lifestyle, health, hobbies and your normal hair routine

5. An analysis of your scalp and hair should be done at the initial consultation to make sure your hair is in a condition for successful hair extensions.

6. Ask to see before and after photos of hair extension clients

7. Ask for references and be sure to call them

8. Ask how often the average client needs to replace the hair. This is very important for anticipating future costs

9. Get a written estimate for your hair extensions with an itemized list of the services required to achieve your new look

10.Get a written maintenance plan. Plan should include recommendations for products, grooming tools, follow-up appointments and any special instructions.

After you have hair extensions, it is very important that you take care of them properly. Some methods will require the use of special shampoos and styling appliances. There may be recommendations from your stylist in reference to sleeping, brushing, swimming, shampooing and styling your hair extensions. Regular maintenance is also an important step to keep the hair healthy and looking good. Long hair requires work. So make plans to put your time in??. as well as your money!

Different Grades of Hair

People often wonder how you can tell the difference between Grades A, B, C & D human hair. Clip in hair extensions can be made of any grade hair. Being satisfied with grade C hair is unlikely. The hair will feel different, not last very long and dry up easily. Grade A hair still has its cuticle in place. A clip in hair extension made with grade A hair will look and feel thick, smooth and soft.

Here is a break up showing you the differences in grades of clip in hair extensions -

Examples talk of 18inch clip in hair -

Our Hair is true -

Grade A - 100% Human hair, hand selected remi, cuticle in place and aligned. 95% of the hair is 18inches in length. Which means that the ends of the hair extensions are as thick as the middle and top? This type of hair is perfect for clip in hair extensions.

Grade B - 100% Human Hair, remi, cuticle sometimes in place and sometimes non-aligned - causes tangles. 70% of the hair is 18inches in length. This means 30% of the hair on the extension may only be 10inches, leaving a thinner end, the hair is sometimes stretched to make it appear longer, this is unacceptable for hair extensions.

Grade C - 100% Human Hair, non remi, no cuticle. 40% of the hair is 18inches in length. The hair is sometimes 'stretched' to make it appear longer. This means very thin ends!

Grade D - Yaki hair, synthetic and human mixed. 40% of the hair is 18inches in length. Thin ends and poor texture.

A good check idea is to ask a supplier to explain what makes their grade A clip ins 'grade A.’ Ask for all the details about width as well as length. A great supplier will always be happy to give you all the information you require.

What do Celebrities Wear?

So who gets hair extensions? Many celebrities get hair extensions for various movie roles. The celebrity factor is what has catapulted the popularity of hair extensions over the last 5 years. When you see magazine covers with famous actors having long, flowing natural looking long hair, you begin to think that maybe you could get the same look. Once thought as a rich person?s service, hair extensions have become much more affordable and even practical for everyday consumers.

Celebrities hair extensionWithin the industry of sessions styling it is well known that clip in extensions have been used for years. Clip ins were the extension trade secret of the stylists that worked at photo shoots and catwalks! Hair extensions, whether applied with glue, bonds or sewn in all have related problems. The clip in hair extension has far moved on from the days of the trashy high ponytail claw clip. Most importantly they are the only type of extension that doesn't damage your hair in any way and they truly do look as fabulous and real as the other type of extensions currently available. Why wouldn't they! After all they are made using the exact same beautiful quality hair as a glue extension system. The only difference is the use of a clip.

Many of my clients were secretly wearing the clip in hair extension long before people knew they existed. Clip ins enabled me to dramatically change a clients appearance in a realistic way. I think the greatest advantage is being able to style the extensions before my clients are even in sight. Before a model sets foot on a photo shoot the design team are busy creating mood boards and sampling textures and ideas. Every detail of the project from shoe color to hair texture is determined before hand. On the morning of the shoot I can often be found surrounded by beautifully styled hair that isn't even attached to a persons head. The models arrive, I prep their hair, clip in the extension and off they trot to make-up. It makes my job a dream, all the prep work can be done before hand without the stresses you normally go through on set.

Now that the clip in extension is so easily available to the public the trends you see on catwalks will easily be achievable to the masses. Saturday nights out will see girls fashioning fabulous healthy looking hair more so than ever before. I think clip in extensions are here to stay for the long run, whether on set, in the salon or at home!

Permanent or Semi Permanent Extensions

With regard to permanent hair extensions, which in truth can only ever be semi permanent hair extensions (the type supposed to last up to 4 months), a great deal of my research was not favorable. Messages were full of dire warnings about hair coming out in lumps because of poor extension application, glue clumping or worse than poor application - disastrous hair extension removal.
Extensions provides professionally applied 100% human hair extensions, all of which have been tried, tested and proven to be safe. Only the highest quality products are used, and all of the hair comes from some of the world.

I came to one simple conclusion - my choice would be to avoid the permanent hair extensions that last about 4 to 16 weeks. I quickly learnt that people who wash their hair daily as I do, soon find long term hair extensions shed slowly with each hair shampoo wash. My hairdresser even told me that all that was often required to remove them was lots of thick hair conditioner to soften the glue bonds and whoosh they'd soon loosen out even without special bond removers. It seemed even hair washing itself could also be problematic with showering seeming the best method of washing the hair extensions to prevent too much tangling.

Whichever method permanent extensions are attached, it is best if they are shampooed just twice a week. I also discovered that with various bonded extensions, wearers were also expected to go back to the hairdresser to have loose extensions reattached as a matter of course at a 'check up' appointment.

Stylish, sexy and absolutely safe. Truly gorgeous extensions, expertly tailored and individually created for the look of your dreams.

Methods / Skills of Application

According to articles everywhere, how extensions stayed put on an individual head, was certainly dependant on the method and skill of the application. Even then, there would be a strong chance of shedding with time. Alarm bells rang for me - maintenance on hair extensions seemed heavy to me. I drew the conclusion they were not for me. I also pondered on the fact that I simply might not like wearing them 24/7 especially with the don't wash them daily advice. Many had to keep using them because they had used extensions too often without resting the scalp and hair. Then it became more and more difficult to rectify scalp damage without having hair cut pixie short.

My research also suggested that even the most expensive top salon methods of application can still cause some damage to hair. The wearer is also responsible for looking after the extensions well too. A scratchy plastic ball end hairbrush should never be used on extensions. The use of the correct hairbrush such as a Mason Pearson or a paddle brush is important. The best comb to use is a saw tooth comb rather than a cheap molded comb, which can catch and break extension hair and your own hair.

Sleeping on the hair in an awkward way can pull at your own hair, so can leaning back and catching the long hair extensions when driving. All this can create extra stress and breakage on your own hair.

However they may well be for you for a special event. Daily wear of them simply does not appeal to me. Instead I decided to opt for clip-in human hair extensions. I knew I only wanted to wear the hair extensions for occasional use rather than everyday. Even clip-in extensions if put in incorrectly or removed without care can also cause a little hair damage too. But clip in hair extensions may be perfect for photographic makeovers and the like.

About Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are now more popular than they have ever been, thanks in large part to celebrities using them. Hair extension, a safer way to beautiful hair, is a type of external hair or any other hair-like material that gets fused with the original hair. This technique gives a fresher look and attracts the youths of today’s world. Hair Extension technique adds a sizzling look to people and provides a constant beauty supply to the hair. As the popularity of hair extension is tremendous, it’s becoming a great usage curve for people trying out this technique. More and more women are making hair extensions part of their beauty routine because they are extremely affordable. Many products found at the trendy, fashionable online wig and hair extensions store.

Clip-on hair extensions are a good way to start if you've never used them before, and wonder what it would be like to have long hair again; if you like them, then consider the more permanent and more expensive hair extensions. "Today extensions can be clipped into place with a few simple steps and can add natural body or length to hair."

Of course it's much easier to add extra length than cutting off all your hair. Depending on your hair growth rate, you might have to wait three to six months, if not longer, to get all your hair back.

Whatever makeover you think you'll decide to try--long, medium, or short--blonde, brunette, red, or black--see if you can get it to match your personality and be a good representation of the new you.

Make a choice that will last more than a few hours based on something deeper than your mood. Give it a few days or even a week before you decide. Let the idea 'grow' on you and then you may want to ask your friends if they agree with your plan.

One can have extensions that include curly hair, fusion hair or with the highest grade Remy hairs. These extensions promisingly result in long, thick gorgeous hair look. Sometimes it becomes important to look up to the other side of hair extension techniques which results in damage to the hair if not done properly. Ready made answers to questions as “What will work well for your hair, and may not work for someone else?”, “Will your hair hold extra weight of extensions?”, and “Will you spend extra time and money to take care of them?” are a must to think about.

Hair extensions and wigs used to be associated with illness, but with the increased celebrity exposure, they are seen today as in vogue fashion accessories.
